Man. I thought I was SO cool when I got my Palm Pilot!  “Check this out…it’s a stylus”.  Went it went color! OMG!! I like…flipped out.  It’s amazing to think how quickly times have changed.  I’m sure 5 years from now I’ll be thinking…wow remember when we had to use our fingers to input into the iPhone?

Time is flying. Hug your children, call your mom and cherish your gadget until the next thing comes around.

Help us @mihai, you’re our only hope! #delicious to #GoogleBookmarks broken or blocked? @joshu any ideas?

Yahoo’s lame announcement of sunsetting Delicious has left the millions (just a guess) of users who have come to love it. Yes it had feature creep to no end, but heh, I just didn’t use them.  So I immediately googled alternatives and I decided I want to use Google Bookmarks.  For the life of me I can’t figure out how to import my lame *html* export of the bookmarks from Delicious into Google Bookmarks, and even if I did, I would lose all my meta data (tags) to organize them. SOOooo….Google search 2: I find this: http://persistent.info/delicious2google/ ! AWESOME a Dilicious to Google Bookmarks importer.  PERFECT! And it’s by a Googler so you know it has to be good.  Then this:
NOOOooooOoooo.. Darn it anyway

Is it a bug fix? Server crash? Delicious blocking calls so they don’t have all usere bolt before they have a real exit strategy?  What ever it is, can you ask your buddy over in the Bookmark world to do something.

So if you’re reading this Mihai Parparita, please liberate the deliciousness that is held hostage in a purple tower of gloom. Help us Mihai Paparita, you’re our only hope.  Unless of course @joshu has a better idea then you’re off the hook.

All the best,

John / @acappellamedia

The majority of search marketers have recognized the importance of social media to their search engine optimization efforts, according to a November 2010 study from search marketing software provider SEOmoz.

Nearly 71% of respondents said they use social media as part of their SEO strategy. Social media marketing can be an excellent driver of content visibility, by helping to keep content fresh and abundant, and also by increasing the number of inbound links a site receives.

iWallet, Near Field Communications and Isis: The iPhone be your be-all.

One Step Closer to Reality: Apple’s iWallet Application

1b - Cover - ISIS - National Alliance for the iWallet - Nov 16, 2010
Apple’s leading trend in patent based research in 2010 was without a doubt concerning all things related to the use of Near Field Communications or NFC in all of Apple’s hardware. The iPhone will no doubt emerge as the most crucial device in Apple’s NFC ecosystem because it will serve as your future means of electronic payment. A trend that will allow your future iPhone to act as electronic currency, your credit card, your debit card, your electronic coupon and all the while acting as a means of holding electronic tickets for such things as concerts, air travel, bus or subway. Today, we’re one step closer to that reality with the formation of a National Mobile Commerce Network called ISIS, backed by AT&T and Verizon, Apple’s current wireless partners.

I can’t believe that none of the bigger blogs have any of this on their radar. This is amazing stuff happening and is yet another game changer. Apple will be creating an iWallet to be used in lieu of plastic and it wil have location based ads with iAds, coupons, personalized loyalty. They bought Siri, the personal assistant app recently. This means the Dick Tracy video watch looks like Fred Flintstone’s sundial watch.

This may be the genius that is Apple. Yeah, opensource is great and I love Android (secretly rooting for it), but there’s something to be said about things “just working”.

Can’t wait to see this future Apple has in store for us.

Are Microsoft Tags the “go to” 2D barcode for major publishers? Allure’s $725,000 give away is compelling.

Allure to Give Away $725,000 Worth of Beauty Products via Microsoft Tags

Allure magazine has partnered with Microsoft Tag for its annual Free Stuff issue this August, allowing readers to use their smartphones to participate in $725,000 worth of beauty product giveaways, which are awarded on a first-come, first-win basis.

In years past, readers could log on to Allure’s website to enter the contests and sign up for text alert reminders. This year, however, the promotion is moving to smartphones.

To take part in the contests, which begin August 2, readers can type gettag.mobi into their mobile browsers to download the Microsoft Tag Reader. Using the app, they can scan the Tag in the magazine or on Allure’s Free Stuff page to register. Users can also opt to get text message alerts 15 minutes before each event occurs and then scan the Tag to enter.

For those unfamiliar with Microsoft Tag, the product is Microsoft’s version of the QR code, a 2-D barcode that can be scanned using a QR reader app to pull up images, video and a range of other interactive features. Although there are a number of QR code readers available in smartphone app stores, Microsoft Tag requires its own reader app.

Of course, I love 2D Barcodes. Microsoft proves that it can swing its weight to get major publishers to use their proprietary Microsoft Tag. Using 2D barcodes for contests is a GREAT application of the technology.

Should 4SQ and Groupon be concerned that #Facebook just launched “Deals”? I think so!

Everyone likes getting a good deal, but it’s not always easy to find the right one at the moment you could use one. Imagine that while you’re looking for a new place to try for lunch, you could see offers from restaurants nearby on your phone. On the other hand, I already love Zachary’s Pizza, so imagine if I were rewarded for coming back there every week with my friends.

Starting today, local businesses will be able to offer you deals when you check in to their place on Facebook. Deals will be rolling out over the next few days and will only be available in the United States at this time.

We launched Places to let you share where you are with your friends and see who’s nearby. Now with Deals, you also can see what offers are nearby and share those deals with your friends.

Finding deals near you is easy. On touch.facebook.com or the latest version of Facebook for iPhone, touch “Places” and then touch “Check In.” Nearby Places with deals have a yellow icon:

Well, this just may be the move that breathes new life into Facebook’s Places! Now there’s a reason to use it and it just may give Foursquare a run for it’s money. An in the process, Groupon should be hearing footsteps! What do you think? Will you start checking in Places just to get a deal?? Probably!
